In China, a series of earthquakes has left tens of thousands of people homeless and facing freezing overnight temperatures in the country's south-west.

China correspondent Michael Cavanagh reports.

Its estimated around four and a half thousand are injured from the quakes which occurred late last week, although significant details are now only being made public. The number hurt is nearly three times what was originally stated. Three hundred and fifty are said to be serious. The earthquakes which measured five and six point two on the Richter scale caused over twelve thousand homes to collapse in the Yunan and Sichuan provinces, extremely poor areas. Overnight temperatures are at zero degrees and officials say clothing, food and medicine are in short supply. M-C Beijing.
