Party membership dues allocated for disaster relief

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Friday allocated 1.5 million yuan (236,000 U.S. dollars) of party membership dues to be used as relief funds in storm-battered Minxian county in northwest China's Gansu Province.

The money was part of the party membership dues collected from the CPC's 80 million members, according to the department.

The department urged local party organizations and members to go to the hardest-hit areas to serve the people affected and help with their resettlement and the post-disaster reconstruction.

Rainstorms and subsequent hail, floods and mudslides have left more than 40 people dead and 87 people injured in the county as of May 12.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Finance allocated 250 million yuan in relief funds to Gansu on May 16.
