Flash floods prevention has gained benefits

Since 2011, the meteorological protection project of geological disaster prevention implemented by CMA has progressed smoothly. The observing system, equipment support system, forecasting and risk assessment system and early warning service system of this project are carried out in an orderly manner. Currently, the second phase of this project has been started. The project of flash floods control at county-level has already been launched.

China Meteorological Administration carried out census on risk of small and medium-sized river floods, flash floods and geological disasters around the country and determined the disaster-prone sites.

In 2012, CMA further improved the monitoring capabilities, refined precipitation and short-term forecasting level. Meanwhile, meteorological disaster warning information has been released more timely, accurately and widely. In the disaster-prone areas, CMA has built a number of integrated operational platforms that can monitor, forecast and release early warning information.

In this year, this project has produced benefits in disaster prevention and mitigation. According to incomplete statistics, in the flood season of this year, 645 counties in China issued 19,000 times of mountain flood warnings. through this platform. 6.2 million SMS issued. And more than 2.65 million people were displaced from dangerous zones, with casualties greatly reduced. (Sep.21)
