Flash flood and landslide hits SW China

GUIYANG, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed, with another three missing after a flash flood and landslide in Nayong County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, late on Sunday.

Local sources in Nayong said it rained heavily in Dongdi Township of Nayong on Sunday evening. The resultant flash flood broke the walls of the complex housing the township family planning committee and of the adjacent hospital.

Four residents from Jieshang Village were swept away by the flood, whilst a couple from Saluo Village were buried inside their home by landslide caused by the sudden heavy rains.

Latest reports indicate that rescuers, led by Party and government authorities of Nayong County, have found the remains of just one of the four villagers that were swept away by the flood, along with the bodies of the couple who were killed in the collapse of their house.

The search and rescue operation to locate the remaining three villagers is ongoing.
