Forecast to be affected by Super Typhoon Yagi in early September, southern part of China and northern part of Vietnam experienced torrential rainfall since September 6, 2024. Yagi has also caused serious impacts on the sea, coastal areas and islands of both countries.
In order to minimize the damage of floods caused by Yagi, following the collaboration mechanism between China and Vietnam in meteorological science and technology over the years, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA) share rainfall observation data of meteorological stations in China - Vietnam bordering areas, supporting decision making of local governments from both sides, in particular county and prefectural level governmental agencies in disaster mitigation and response work.
The World Meteorological Centre (Beijing) has also worked with VNMHA forecasters to deliver dedicated forecasts of Super Typhoon Yagi on precipitation and wind force in Vietnam as well as predicted impacts.
Both sides considered that the shared meteorological data have played an important role in the two countries' responding to this super typhoon.
