China's ambassador appreciates Brunei government for its donations to China's earthquake-hit areas

Under the leadership of China's central government with the considerable assistance from the international community, China has achieved an important victory over the quake-relief. On the 12th of May this year, a strong earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter Scale jolted Southwest China's Sichuan Province. His Majesty's Government had donated 1.1 million US dollars in cash to China's earthquake-hit areas as well as establishing the Humanitarian Relief Fund for the Victims of Cyclone in Myanmar and the Earthquake in China. This was revealed by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam at a Reception in Appreciation of the Condolences and Donations by the Bruneian Government and People to the Sichuan Earthquake-Hit Region, Tuesday.

Her Excellency Madame Tong Xiaoling further expressed her appreciation that as a close neighbour of China, the Government of Brunei Darussalam and friends from all walks of life have also provided China with great support in various forms. Present during the reception was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohamad.

During the reception, a photo exhibition on the disaster relief and Beijing Olympics Games was held. As on the 20th of July this year, the international donations have reached 3.1 billion yuan and most of the donations have been transferred to the quake-hit areas. Nowadays, the rescue work in Sichuan and other quake-affected areas have almost been finished and the main task now is in the post-quake reconstruction. The Chinese central government is determined to complete all the reconstruction work within 3 years. Meanwhile, the Beijing Olympic Games will be grandly opened this Friday.
