Heavy rain, strong winds and tornadoes have affected eastern and south-eastern China in the past few days, causing severe weather-related incidents, a dam breach and consequent floods.
According to media reports, in Shandong province, destructive tornadoes occurred on 5 July and resulted in at least five fatalities, 83 injured people and almost 3,000 damaged houses. In Hunan province, a breach in a dike occurred at Dongting Lake in Huarong county, Hunan province, resulting in at least 6,000 evacuated people and flooding a wide area.
For the next 24 hours, moderate rain with localized thunderstorms is forecasted across Shandong province, while no relevant precipitations are expected across Hunan province.
