1. VARIOUS SOURCES REPORT THAT UNUSUALLY HIGH FLOODS HAVE AFFECTED A TOTAL OF 11 PROVINCES, KILLING MORE THAN 600 PERSONS. CONTINUING RAINFALLS ARE EXPECTED TO CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGES.

2. THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN BEIJING HAS RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE CHINESE MINISTRY OF CIVIL AFFAIRS, THAT THE FOUR MOST SEVERELY AFFECTED PROVINCES AS LISTED IN SITUATION REPORT NO.1 CAN STILL ACCEPT FURTHER INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE, BUT OTHER PROVINCES ARE NOT PREPARED TO DO SO.

3. THE PERMANENT MISSION OF CHINA, GENEVA, HAS FORWARDED THE FOLLOWING LIST OF MOST NEEDED GOODS AS ESTABLISHED BY THE MINISTRY OF CIVIL AFFAIRS:

FOOD, TENTS, COOKING UTENSILS, BLANKETS, FIELD EMERGENCY LAMPS, SPRAYERS, INSECTICIDES, MEDICAL CENTRIFUGES, DRINKING WATER PURIFYING MACHINE, DISINFECTING MEDICINE AND EQUIPMENT, SYRINGES, GENERATORS, LIFEBOATS, LIFE JACKETS, LIFE BUOYS.

4. SINCE THE PREVIOUS SITUATION REPORT, THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO DHA:

  • GERMANY (THROUGH DHA) DMK 200,000 (USD 131,600) FOR LOCAL AND REGIONAL PROCUREMENT OF RELIEF GOODS,
  • ITALY (THROUGH DHA): USD 50,000 FOR THE LOCAL AND REGIONAL PROCUREMENT OF RELIEF GOODS
  • REPUBLIC OF KOREA (BILATERAL CASH CONTRIBUTION): USD 100,000
  • UNITED STATES (BILATERAL CASH CONTRIBUTION FOR PURCHASE OF TENTS): USD 25,000
  • DENMARK (THROUGH UNDP BEIJING FOR PURCHASE OF FOOD): USD 20,000
5. DHA IS PREPARED TO SERVE AS A CHANNEL FOR CASH CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE LOCAL AND REGIONAL PURCHASE OF RELIEF GOODS AND RELATED LOGISTICS.
