Since May 5, floods caused heavy rainfalls have affected over 497,000 people in 43 counties of 7 cities in Jiangxi Province, China. 14,000 people have been evacuated to emergency shelters, and 2,482 people need emergency living assistance.
67,7000 hectares of crops are affected, and 11,000 hectares of crops are completely damaged. The direct economic loss amounts to 520 million CNY. A dam broke due to the floods and was later closed. Waterlogging in the urban areas are also reported.
The National Headquater for Flood Prevention and Drought Control launched a Level IV emergency response (the lowest among the 4-tier system) for the floods in Jiangxi Province at 15: 00 on May 6, and sent an expert team to the affected areas to guide the rescue. At least over 1000 people, 19 vehicles, and 18 boats are deployed to rescue and evacuate affected population.
