China - Floods (CMA, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 03 July 2024)

  • In the past few days, heavy rainfall has been impacting eastern and south-eastern China, particularly Hunan and Anhui provinces, causing widespread floods and the overflow of rivers - including the Yangtze river - and lakes that are resulting in damage and evacuations.
  • According to media, in Anhui province, 242,000 people have been evacuated and almost one million have been affected across 36 counties. Moreover, in Hunan, several residential areas across Pingjiang county have been severely flooded. Furthermore, houses collapsed, and a number of roads and bridges have been disrupted due to landslides.
  • For the next three days, moderate to heavy rain will occur in eastern Sichuan, Chongqing, western Hubei, eastern and southern Henan, central and southern Shandong, northern Jiangsu and Anhui, central and western Guizhou, central and western Yunnan, southern Tibet.
