China - Floods and landslides (media, CMA) (ECHO Daily Flash of 12 July 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting central China (particularly the Chongqing municipality) since 10 July, causing floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 12 July, six fatalities, of which three due to floods and three more due to a landslide across the Chengxi town (Dianjiang county) and Yuntai town (Changshou county), both in the Chongqing municipality. In addition, media also report 170 displaced people and nearly 7,000 affected people across the aforementioned municipality.
  • Over the next 72 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecasted over central China.
