China - Floods and landslides (CMA, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 22 April 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern China, particularly the Guangdong Province since 20 April, causing severe floods, rivers overflow and triggering several landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media reports, as of 22 April, 11 persons still missing, approximately 53,750 displaced people, 36 collapsed houses and 48 severely damaged houses across the Guangdong Province, where the worst affected cities are Shaoguan, Guangzhou, Heyuan, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Meizhou and Huizhou.
  • According to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), over the next 96 hours very heavy rainfall is forecasted over the whole Guangdong Province.
