China: ADRA China receives grant from the Hong Kong SAR Government in response to Yushu, Qinghai earthquake

300,000 HKD (approx. 40,000 USD) has been approved to Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) China by the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee of Hong Kong SAR Government to undertake relief projects for earthquake victims in Yushu, Qinghai on 6th May.

ADRA China's local staff in Yushu had done the need assessment straight after the quake struck and an experienced team who participated in Sichuan earthquake response back in 2008 was set to Yushu with 1,000 sets of heavy blankets and mattresses as bedding kits for the survivors and further needs assessment. ADRA China will distribute more needed non-food item to the survivors, such as 416 set of stoves and cooking utensils in the coming responses.

Since the 5.12 Sichuan earthquake last struck, ADRA China has been doing a large scale of initial response such as food and non-food item distribution, sent and medical team from Hong Kong to quake-hit area, as well as rehabilitation projects ( for example psychosocial support and training )for the survivors in Sichuan till present.

ADRA China's Chengdu office has also been hosting disaster preparedness workshops for volunteer from the western part of China and this skilled team is in-charge of ADRA China's activities on the ground in Yushu.
