RCSC delegation visits Taiwan and 100 mln yuan planned to post disaster rebuilding

Delegation of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), headed by Executive Vice President Jiang Yiman, went up to Taiwan on Sep 10.

On behalf of all circles of Chinese mainland?the delegation went there for expressing concern and sympathy to compatriots affected by Typhoon Morakot in last month.

Morakot, the worst typhoon to hit Taiwan in nearly 50 years, ravaged the island in early August, leaving about 700 people dead or missing and forcing the evacuation of thousands.

It's said that delegation will visit the worst-hit regions in southern Taiwan from Sep 10 to 14.

Since the disaster happened, RCSC immediately released ways through the media to the society for donation and sent a condole letter to its Taiwan counterpart expressed its willing for assistance.

At present, a total of 21.85 million yuan raised by RCSC has been donated to Taiwan.

Relief work in Taiwan is being carried out and the rebuilding will begin. Chinese Red Cross Society had planed to donate 100 million yuan from all circles of mainland to cooperate with Taiwan Red Cross Society for reconstruction, in order to help people affected by Morakot to resume their normal life.

"We are willing to continue provide assistance according to their needs to Taiwan for relief and rebuilding,"delegates from RCSC said. "Last year, Taiwan people helped us greatly after the 5·12 earthquake. For years, the Red Cross Societies across the Taiwan Strait have worked together well. We will continue our good cooperation to serve people on both sides of the strait."

Rescue team, medical and health experts are also ready to go to Taiwan to participate in disaster relief work and reconstruction.
