Typhoon Morakot has landed Taiwan a few days before and killed at least 126 people and left 61 missing in Taiwan as of 8 a.m. Monday, according to local disaster response authorities.
On 11th Aug., Red Cross of Kunshan city in Jiangsu Province donated 2 milllion yuan to typhoon-hit areas in Taiwan, which was the first donation from mainland's Red Cross.
A total of 4 million yuan was endowed to Taiwan on 14th Aug. by red cross branhces in Beijing, Guangxi, Anhui and Ningxia and a block of relief equipments and donation worth 9.8 million yuan by Hunan Red Cross on 15th Aug.
People of other areas in mainland are also working hard to allocate relief materials and fund to help their Taiwan counterpart.
Authority said that another 45 people were injured after the typhoon, the worst on the island in nearly five decades, wreaking havoc across central and southern regions.
These figure did not include villagers in Kaohsiung who had lost contact.
Morakot has caused nearly 12.28 billion New Taiwan Dollars (372 million U.S. dollars) in damages to agriculture and civilian facilities, 9.63 billion New Taiwan Dollars of which were that of agricultural products as of 9 a.m. Monday.
