Several wildfires continue to burn in the central region of La Araucanía, in Chile, resulting in casualties and damage.
According to the Chilean National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED), as of 11 February, the wildfires have burnt an area of 8,558 ha in the communes of Ercilla, Lautaro, Purén and Galvarino.
The same source reported one fatality, three injured, 27 people that have been sheltered, a total of 44 that have been affected, and at least 30 destroyed houses in the worst affected areas.
For the next 48 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is from high to very extreme over the interested region. SENAPRED issued a red alert for fires in the Araucanía region, and in some communes in Ñuble and Biobío regions.
