Chile - Wildfires (SENAPRED, JRC GWIS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 15 March 2024)

  • Wildfires have been affecting central Chile, in particular the Valparaíso Region since 13 March, causing population evacuation and damage.
  • As of 15 March, according to the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (SENAPRED), there are currently three active wildfires across the Valparaíso Municipality, Valparaíso Region, in Cerro Cordillera, Curauma and La Caldera areas.
  • SENAPRED reports, as of the same date, some evacuated people and approximately 40 damaged houses in the Valparaiso Municipality.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is from high to extreme over the Valparaiso Region.
