An earthquake of 6.2 M at a depth of 41 km occurred very close to the central-western coast of Chile on 6 September at 23.48 UTC (20.48 local time). The epicentre was located in the sea approximately 4 km west of Tongoy Town (Elqui Province, Coquimbo Region) and 38 km south-west of Coquimbo City.
