Chad is the African country most affected by the armed conflict in Sudan, with 51% of Sudanese refugees fleeing the war in Sudan.

As of July 23, 2023, a total of 329,177 Sudanese refugees had been registered (54.5% of them in Adré, the epicenter of the crisis) and 48,180 Chadian returnees since the start of the conflict in Sudan on April 15, 2023.

These refugees and returnees are spread across nine health districts in three provinces (Ouaddaï, Sila, and Wadi Fira). Ouaddaï province is the most affected, with 82.7% of all refugees coming to Chad.

A total of 2,357 injuries have been recorded, including 42 new cases this week. These wounded are being operated on and treated with the support of MSF-F, PUI, the ICRC, and an international emergency medical team deployed by the WHO.

A total of 102 deaths were recorded, including 11 among the wounded, 65 malnourished children, and 26 maternal deaths.

The number of admissions for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is increasing over time.
Ouaddaï province recorded 4,237 new admissions of children with SAM, compared with the 2,606 expected in June 2023, i.e., over 60% more than the target. The Adré health district is particularly affected, with 113% more new admissions than the expected annual target (as of June 30, 2023). -
In response to the measles epidemic in the east of the country, the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention launched a new measles vaccination campaign in Ouaddai province on July 17, 2023, and by Day 7, a total of 478,678 children aged 6 months to 14 years had already been vaccinated (82.5% of the target of 580,490 children to be vaccinated). The campaign will continue until July 27, 2023. It is organized with the support of Gavi, WHO, CERF, and UNICEF.
