HUMANITARIAN OVERVIEW

  • Since the beginning of the conflict in Sudan on 15 April 2023, and as of 15 June 2025, the Chadian government, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have registered 859,217 refugees and 273,654 Chadian returnees. 61 per cent of the refugees and 68 per cent of the returnees are children under 18.
  • This includes 80,543 refugees who have arrived in Chad since mid-April 2025, following the attacks on the internally displaced persons camps of Zamzam and Abou Shouk in Sudan.
  • Most refugees are arriving in the provinces of Wadi Fira and Ennedi Est.
  • Early June 2025, health officials reported a cholera outbreak in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur. There is a high risk of the disease spreading to Chad through the Adré and Tiné entry points.
