OIC Secretary General urges Chad and Sudan to exercise restraint

The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has launched a strong appeal to Chad and Sudan to exercise maximum and avoid any escalation of tension along their common border.

Prof. Ihsanoglu who expressed the concern of the OIC on the latest situation in the relations between the two important Member States, revealed that the Organisation was closely monitoring the developments and was ready to mediate in the dispute. He urged the two brotherly nations to avoid any further acts that could complicate the existing delicate security and humanitarian conditions in the region.

The Secretary General finally reminded the two countries of their obligation to respect all previous agreements especially the Tripoli and Riyadh Accords signed by the parties on good neighborliness in order to restore lasting peace and stability to the area.
