N’djamena, Chad - Flooding situation (As of 20 October 2022)

Attachments

In the capital, N’Djamena, a quarter of the city is flooded, and the humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly as over 71,000 people were displaced in the span of just days. This figure may double in the next week, as waters of the Logone and Chari rivers from the south continue to flood the capital on their way to Lake Chad. Several IDP camps have been set up where families are relocated and Humanitarian actors in support of National autorites are providing relief to those that lost their homes, with Food, Shelter Wash and protection activities. Camps are over their capacity, and new ones are spontaneously created not far from where homes are flooded. As water continues to rise, it is likely that more people will be displaced in the coming days increasing the toll of displaced families.
