Security Development Along the Chad-Sudan Border and Impact on Humanitarian Operations
The security situation along the Chad–Sudan border - particularly around Tiné,in the Wadi Fira province remained highly volatile during the reporting period. Clashes between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Tina (Sudan), along with cross-border incidents on 12 and 18 March, respectively at the Adré/Adikong and Tiné/Tina border areas continue to impact the Chadian border areas. These confrontations resulted in significant human and material losses and further constrained humanitarian access to people in need.
The Government of Chad reinforced its military presence, placed border patrol units on maximum alert, and maintained a full border closure, while maintaining a humanitarian corridor. Troops have been authorized to respond immediately to any attack originating from Sudan.
Given the deteriorating environment, UNDSS has upheld strict movement restrictions, including a suspension of movement in addition to a ban on UN staff travel to Tiné, Chad, in force since 26 February 2026.
