Chad : Short version HNRP 2026

Version. Française

As 2026 begins, Chad is facing one of the most complex humanitarian crises in the Sahel.
This crisis results from the convergence of several factors, including the effects of climate change, regional conflicts, large-scale population displacement, and the chronic fragility of basic social services, compounded by the resurgence of deadly epidemics.
Approximately 22% of the population in Chad covered by the analysis nearly 4.5 million people require urgent humanitarian assistance. This persistent vulnerability is unfolding in a regional crisis context marked by the war in
Sudan, recurrent attacks by non-state armed groups in the Lake Chad area, and repeated climate shocks (floods, droughts, and locust invasions).
However, it is important to note that in recent years, the Chadian State has made sustained efforts to mitigate vulnerabilities, reduce shocks, and strengthen community resilience (increased life expectancy, expanded coverage of water, hygiene, and sanitation services, etc.).
