Humanitarian and health profile of Eastern Chad As of July 23, 2023

  • As of July 23, 2023, a total of 329,177 Sudanese refugees had been registered (54.5% of them in Adré, the epicenter of the crisis) and 48,180 Chadian returnees (IOM), since the start of the conflict in Sudan on April 15, 2023.

  • Three provinces affected and 9 health districts

  • Ouaddai (Adré, Abéché, Amleayouna and Hadjar Hadid): 79.3% of displaced persons

  • Sila (Koukou Angarana and Goz-Beida health districts) : 18.2% • WadiFira(healthdistrictsofGuereda,IribaandTiné):2.5%.

  • 21% of refugees are children under 5 and 93% of returnees are women/children

  • By the end of 2023 we expect to receive > 300,000 additional refugees

  • 82 deaths recorded: 10 injured, 65 malnourished children and 7 maternal deaths

  • 2,357 injured, including 1,842 by firearms (78.1%)

  • Malnutrition in children associated with measles - High mortality

  • Rape of girls and women
