• The security situation has remained tense in and around Bangui over the last four days. Protection of civilians remains a paramount concern.

• Some 639,000 are displaced within CAR, including some 214,000 in Bangui alone. Altogether, 2 million people need humanitarian aid – over 43 per cent of the population.

• Since the outbreak of violence in December, WFP has provided food to 196,011 people in CAR. However, partners’ capacities are currently limited due to staffing and funding constraints.

• A team supporting a joint rapid multi-sectoral assessment mission left Bangui on 23 December to visit IDP sites in Bouar and Bozoum, in north-west CAR. Altogether, six teams are scheduled to conduct assessments across the country in the next week depending on security conditions.
