HIGHLIGHTS

  • UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos called for increased security and protection of all communities across the Central African Republic (CAR). During her visit, 18-19 February, she expressed her concern regarding the plight of Central Africans, and their country, and called for more troops on the ground to protect civilians.

  • On 19 February, the Chadian government announced the end of the evacuation operations of its nationals out of the Central African Republic.

  • Relative calm was observed along the eastern border regions with Cameroon. However, fighting was reported between Central African militias and MISCA in Cantonnier, located at about two kilometres close to the Cameroonian border town of Garoua Boulaï.

  • The President of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza, called on Monday, 17 February for the French troops to remain in the country until the presidential elections in 2015.
