In the city of Zemio a non-state armed group (NSAG) attacked the authorities and caused an open conflict, reportedly following disagreements on the terms of an ongoing Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration process.
Since the start of hostilities on 10 May, approximately 4,311 people were displaced. Only few humanitarian organizations are present and able to respond effectively. Immediate needs are in non-food and shelter items, food, psychosocial support. Some commuting movements between Zemio and Democratic Republic of Congo continue to be recorded.
Other targeted killings of a public official (sub-prefect of Djémah) and a community health worker near the Zémio-Mboki axis add to the instability.
The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) made available EUR 7 million, most of the funds are for the Haut Mboumou area. UN OCHA calls for strengthening protection of civilians, especially those in need of humanitarian assistance and facilitating humanitarian access.
