Insecurity has escalated in Bangui between 22-23 March, reversing the trend of the displaced people returning home. There are currently 625,000 IDPs in CAR, 200,000 in Bangui alone. This represents an increase in 23,000 IDPs since last week, making this the second week in a row of IDP increases- a departure from the downward trend in IDP figures since mid-January. Half of the total increase has been in Bangui. The gradual arrival of the rainy season, coupled with limited humanitarian access due to growing insecurity, is compounding these IDPs' vulnerability.
