CONTEXT
In line with the preferences expressed by the affected populations and commitments made in the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2023 to assist 1.6 million people in cash transfers and vouchers, humanitarian actors continued to diversify and strengthen Cash-based interventions (CBI) across the response in CAR. The majority of reported cash interventions were implemented as part of the food security response.
In the first quarter of 2023, 289K beneficiaries were reached compared to 312K in the same period in 2022, a decrease of 7 per cent. At the same time, US$6.1 million was distributed in 2023 compared to US$7 million in 2022, a decrease of 13 per cent. The generalized increase in operational costs, the direct consequence of the fuel crisis on the functioning of markets, and therefore on food assistance, partly explains the decline in the number of beneficiaries reached and the amount of cash transfers.
