Central African Republic (CAR) Situation Report No.18 (as of 26 March 2014)
Attachments
Highlights
· Renewed violence across the country marked the anniversary of the 24 March seizure of power by the ex-Seleka.
· In Bangui, violence reversed the trend of IDPs returning home and led to humanitarian access limitations. The number of IDPs in Bangui increased again from 177,000 to approximately 200,000.
· The CAR Red Cross reported that at least 18 people were killed between 22 and 23 March.
· Only 22 per cent of the CAR Strategic Response Plan (SRP) of US$551 million has been disbursed or committed. Renewed support to the Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) in 2014 has enabled a special allocation of almost $5 million to multiple projects. Additional pledges made are urgently needed ahead of the rainy season to support returns and assist vulnerable groups.
