During the evening of 27 April 2014, it was confirmed Qatar Charity had just set a new Guinness World Record by collecting 29.65 tons of clothes for the needy in a 24-hour period in the presence of representatives from Guinness World Records. The clothes collected in Doha's Aspire Zone were more than double the previous record of 12.25 tons set in Vietnam last year.
The collected clothes will be distributed to approximately 27,000 people who have been displaced due to natural and human-made disasters in the Central African Republic, the Philippines and Yemen. An additional key purpose of the event was to further promote a culture of philanthropy and awareness raising in Qatar by encouraging the involvement of the local community, schools and other local institutions.
