Busan, South Korea―Today, the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, announced that the Government of Canada signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Australia to strengthen their respective international development efforts - ensuring more coordinated, effective and sustainable results.
"This Memorandum of Understanding confirms the commitment of Australia and Canada to work together to achieve effective development results, in order to reduce poverty and support stability in developing countries," said Minister Oda. "This agreement will build on our common goals of aid effectiveness, transparency and accountability."
This agreement, signed by Canada and Australia during the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4), provides a framework for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) to focus on common development goals in areas such as food security and nutrition, education and sustainable mining. Canada and Australia will also work together in multilateral fora to ensure value for money and accountability.
Canada welcomes this Memorandum of Understanding as a demonstration of Canada's and Australia's commitment to build new global partnerships dedicated to reducing global poverty.
