Operational Updates
- Food assistance during emergencies: In October 2024, WFP assisted 117,440 internally displaced people (IDPs), refugees and vulnerable host populations, distributing 387 mt of food and US$ 832,822 in cash and through value vouchers. This includes 63,800 people assisted under flood response.
- WFP ramped up flood response interventions, disbursing more than US$ 708,000 as cash-based food assistance and 376 mt of assorted commodities to people affected by floods in the Logone et Chari and Mayo Danay divisions in the Far North Region. WFP used the hybrid cash delivery mechanism (combination of mobile money, direct cash and e-voucher) for assistance in communities with functional markets. - Malnutrition prevention and management of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM): WFP assisted 21,340 children aged 6-23 months (including 2,400 children under flood response) and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls (PBW/G) with 75 mt of specialised nutritious foods (SNFs) and US$ 2,715. The beneficiaries included about 11,520 people under prevention of acute malnutrition and 9,820 people supported under MAM supplementation. Children aged 6-23 months comprise 85 percent of people assisted. Cash assistance was provided to 245 PBW/G in the Southwest Region to provide them flexibility to get a wider range of assistance and adhere to pre- and post-natal care.
- School feeding activities: WFP provided school meals to about 34,280 primary school children in the Adamawa and Far North regions among whom 14,600 of these learners were served school meals valued at US$ 92,850 which was paid to local cooperatives supplying the schools with home-grown products.
- The United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) operated flights to Maroua and N’Djamena (Chad) from Yaounde. This included 13 return flights for 329 passengers from 34 partner organisations.
