Operational Updates

• Food assistance during emergencies: In December 2024, WFP assisted 320,810 internally displaced people (IDPs), refugees and vulnerable host populations, distributing 1,190 mt of food and US$ 2.5 million in cash and through value vouchers. This includes 131,000 people assisted under flood response and 56,600 refugees in Minawao Camp.

• Flood response: WFP continued to assist people affected by the floods in the Logone et Chari and Mayo Danay divisions (Far North Region). By the end of December, WFP had provided 131,000 people (71 percent of the plan) with three months food rations (919 mt) and hybrid cash-based transfers (US$ 2.9 million).

• Malnutrition prevention and management of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM): WFP assisted 66,760 children aged 6-59 months (99 percent of whom aged 6-23 months) and 5,025 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls (PBW/G) with 204 mt of specialised nutritious foods (SNFs) and US$ 53,560 in CBT. These included 13,244 people supported under prevention of acute malnutrition and 58,544 people under moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) management. Flood response incorporated in-kind supplementary nutrition assistance to 10,810 children and cash assistance to 3,870 PBW/G (US$ 41,075).

• School feeding activities: WFP provided school meals to about 44,200 primary school children in the Adamawa, East, Far North, North and Northwest regions. Of these students, 27,650 were served school meals using products sourced from local farmer cooperatives, valued at US$ 137,400.

• Resilience-building activities: In December, WFP continued supporting communities through early recovery and resilience-building activities in all areas of operation. WFP supported over 12,975 activity participants with US$ 192,360 under food assistance for asset creation activities. Activities are ongoing to create and manage agricultural assets such as community fields, fishponds, and small animal breeding units. Together with implementing partners and technical services of government ministries, WFP also trained 71,265 people in improved production techniques and post-harvest management.
