COUNTRY OVERVIEW
Climate change in Cameroon is characterized, among other phenomena, by rising daily and night-time temperatures. During March and April 2024, the whole country recorded higher temperatures than the average for the last 10 years (2014-2023). In fact, during these two months, temperatures were on average 1°C to 3°C higher, both during the day (maximum temperature) and at night (minimum temperature). The regions that recorded particularly hot days (T-max > 1.5%) during these two months were Centre, Adamaoua, North, Far North, and parts of West, North-West and South-West (fig.1). The North and Far North recorded particularly hot days, with maximum temperatures averaging between 35°C and 45°C.
March and April 2024 were also marked by more or less very warm nights (T-min >1.5°C) compared with the average for the last 10 years, particularly in Adamaoua, the North, and parts of the Far North, West and North-West regions. In the Far North, temperatures averaged between 35°C and 45°C during the day, and 25°C and 33°C at night over the two months, leading to more or less prolonged discomfort for the population.
