Situation Update

The escalating conflict in Akwaya Subdivision, South-West Region, has resulted in large-scale displacement and serious humanitarian consequences.

  • Mass Displacement: 3,500 people displaced across 560 households, mostly in overcrowded or makeshift shelters.
  • Escalating Violence: 38 deaths and 29 injuries reported due to Violence involving pastoralist groups and State security forces.
  • Education Disruption: All assessed schools are either non-functional or partially functional; urgent need for temporary learning spaces and supplies.
  • Nutrition, Health & WASH Crisis: Severe shortages in health personnel, malnutrition, poor feeding practices, drugs, and water infrastructure; widespread open defecation and long treks for water access.
  • Protection Risks: High risks of GBV, child exploitation, and civil documentation loss.
  • Access Barriers: Humanitarian access extremely limited due to road conditions and insecurity, including inaccessible treatment health facilities and fully functional treatment centers.
