Over 5.3 million people have been affected by floods in West and Central Africa, with flooding continue to affect people in Mali in February.
In Ansongo, Mali, heavy flooding affected river coastlines’ inhabitants, displacing hundreds of families. No additional floods were reported in Cameroon, Chad, the Niger, or Nigeria in the month of February. UNHCR flood response continued to support flood-displaced families to rebuild their homes and lives.
In Maiduguri, Nigeria, the Gubio Road camp, the last remaining camp hosting flood-affected displaced people was officially closed to repurpose to a transit center for returning refugees from Chad. The government notified families to leave. Partners were instructed to suspend their activities, but to keep their working structures intact for a quick resumption to respond to the returnees
