Cameroun - Wildfires (DG ECHO, OCHA) (ECHO Daily Flash of 9 February 2026)

  • On 7 February 2026, a series of fires swept through four Internally displaced populations (IDP) sites in Kolofata (Mayo‑Sava, Far North): Ndaba Bergérie, Camp Lélédé, Kordo Bergérie, and later Camp Lélédé Tribune. Initial estimates indicate 1 100 affected households or 6 993 people. Two fatalities have been confirmed. Rapid spread was driven by strong winds, highly flammable shelter materials, and dense settlement patterns. More than 3 500 shelters were destroyed along with food stocks and livelihoods; injuries include one second‑degree burn and four hospitalisations.
  • Priority needs: shelters and non food items, food assistance, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), psychosocial support, and protection. Assessments continue (local authorities, Cameroon Red Cross (CRC) Society, Intersos/Arduh), with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) supporting CRC to finalise rapid assessments. Strong community solidarity is reported.
