SITUATION OVERVIEW / HUMANITARIAN ACCESS

The situation in the North-West and South-West regions (NWSW) remained concerning over the period with continuing hostilities, and armed clashes. Improvised explosive device (IED) attacks also persisted, with nine incidents reported in August. In addition, inter-communal tensions were reported in the Donga-Mantung division in the North-West (NW) leading to looting, injuries, loss of life, and displacement of people. In Manyu division (SouthWest), tension between a community vigilante group and NSAGs in Akwaya subdivisions led to the displacements of people to nearby bushes and communities including neighboring Nigeria. In total about 4,297 persons were reportedly displaced in August. Most of the reported displacements were pendular with displaced persons returning to their areas of origin within a couple of days when the security situation improved.

Regular Monday lockdowns and roadblocks continued to limit the movements of civilians and humanitarian actors. The Ngo-ketunjia division in the NW saw NSAGs enforce an additional lockdown from 10 to 24 August. During this period, the movement of vehicles and socio-economic activities were banned except during weekends.
