Humanitarian response overview
From the WASH comprehensive assessment (2024-2025), 56% of schools in NWSW have no water point on their premises, while 25% lack any sanitation facilities. Regarding handwashing and hygiene, 83% of schools with latrines reported that these facilities lack handwashing stations. In communities, 35% of households rely on unimproved sanitation facilities, and a significant 15% portion still practice open defecation. As for communities water points, 30% are non-functional and 22% are only seasonally functional, forcing people to rely on alternative, often unsafe water sources.
In March 2025, 11 WASH Cluster reached 6,014 people, with 90% being children (2,592 Girls and 2,827 Boys). Key interventions included hygiene promotion for all beneficiaries, safe drinking water access for 3,343 people, and proper sanitation for 626 individuals. Infrastructure progress saw 1 water points under construction/ rehabilitation, and 09 completed, along with 8 latrines in progress and 21 completed. These efforts highlight a continued focus, of WASH cluster partners, on improving WASH conditions in crisis-affected areas, despite financial limitations.
