In 2024, some 3.4 million people living in Cameroon need humanitarian assistance and protection 1 . The Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2 is targeting 2.3 million most vulnerable people and requires US$ 371.4 million. People in need are affected by the impact of conflict and violence, climate shocks, and disease outbreaks.
The Lake Chad basin conflict, the North-West and South-West crisis, and the consequences of the Central African Republic (CAR) refugee crisis continue to impact the lives of women, girls, men, and boys in affected areas.
One million people are internally displaced persons (IDPs). New or multiple displacements and insufficient resources contribute to the considerable erosion of the already limited resilience of the affected population and to enduring humanitarian needs. The country is also generously hosting nearly half a million refugees and asylum seekers.
Some 2.5 million people are projected to face acute food insecurity in 2024 3 . The SMART-SENS nutrition survey, conducted in four regions showed a deterioration for children aged 6–59 months compared with 2021 4 . Almost 400,000 children aged between 6 and 59 months will suffer from acute malnutrition in 2024 (the period from November 2023 to October 2024), including almost 147,000 cases of severe acute malnutrition, and 248,000 cases of moderate acute malnutrition 5 .
In the first trimester of 2024, 505,086 people have been reached by the humanita-rian response in crisis-affected areas in the Far North, North-West, South-West and eastern regions. According to FTS 34.7 million USD has been allocated to the response, representing 9% of the required funding (as of 31 March).
Among the humanitarian partners operating in the country, 88 have submitted projects in the HRP, providing ongoing life-saving assistance to local communities in support of government efforts. Out of those 45 are national/local organizations contributing to the response
