Cameroon Education Cluster: Northwest & Southwest Updates - Operational Presence & Reach (January 2026)

In January 2026, 11 Education Cluster partners implemented non-formal education activities in 12 out of 13 Divisions and reached a total of 15.340 persons. Among them, 3,096 (20%) people benefited from cluster activities for the first time, with 12,244 (80%) repeated from previous months. All the 15,340 persons reached were children reached with non-formal education. 503 (3.28%) persons living with disabilities were reached, with 50 being those reached for the first time. January 2026 witnessed a 4% decrease in persons reached compared to December 2025.

The top three Divisions with the most reach were Bui with 2,772 (18%) individuals reached, covered by 3 partners (GPA, SHUMAS, & TeenAlive) in Kumbo and Oku Subdivisions. This is closely followed by Donga-Mantung, where 2,497 (16%) individuals were reached, covered by 2 partners (GPA, & SHUMAS) in Ako, Ndu & Nkambe Subdivisions. The third is Mezam where 2,068 (13%) beneficiaries were reached, covered by 4 partners (GPA, TeenAlive, SHUMAS, & ASWEDO) in Bali, Bamenda I, Bamenda II, Bamenda III, Santa and Tubah Subdivisions. Activities were not reported in Momo, Boyo and Menchum Divisions all in the North West Region.

Eleven (11) cluster partners reported cluster activities supported by 8 donors and 2 self-funded organisations (UNICEF, UNESCO, UNFPA, European Union (EU), Education Cannot Wait (ECW), SIDA, Building Schools for Africa, Street Child, Glocir, and HADY) implemented activities in 10 Divisions and covered 29 subdivisions. Some of the major activities implemented by the partners were: radio education programme and alternative education platforms, which reached 15,340 (100%) children with 51%

girls and 49% boys. A total of 2,864 (19%) were reached with recreational activities (psychosocial activities) for children in schools and temporary learning spaces, while 22 persons were reached with inclusive professional and vocational training.

Allegedly, six (6) attacks on education, specifically the kidnapping of education personnel, affected 10 persons (1 boy and 9 male teachers) in Jakiri, Widikum, Mbengwi, Menchum Valley, Misaje, and in Kumba 1.

Inthe South West Regions, PAIDWA continued with Vocational training with over 70 participants on their campus. The participants were trained in greenhouse farming, poultry, pastry making, and fashion designing. Lead Child Africa distributed textbooks and learning materials to 56 children including 30 girls and 26 boys in Government practicing School in Downtown Limbe. FIED continued with the implementation of UNICEF's ECHO II project in the SWR. They also continued with the implementation of their digital learning program with UNESCO as part of their sustainability program. FIED partnered with the University of Buea and conducted an assessment on lesson learnt from UNICEF's Social Behavioural Changes in the TLS in the South West. With funds from ECW, they supported 6 communities to set up recreational spots for children. HADY continued monitoring UNICEF's Education and WASH activities in the 6 Divisions of the South West Region covering 56 communities. The data management training on the Impact Project, which they started in 2025, continued over 36 NGOs benefitting from the NW and SW Regions. TeenAlive started a project in the North West, which is running satellite learning spaces for 1,504 girls in 3 subdivisions. They continued with UNICEF's ECHO II project, ongoing in Lebialem and Koupe Manengouba, implementing child protection activities in TLS, including life skills and recreational activities. Caritas Kumba continued with the sustainability programme on the UNESCO programme and implemented child protection activities in UNICEF's TLS in Kumba I, Kumba II, and Kumba II subdivisions. NADEF reached 300 adolescent girls in Meme with a gender transformative program. AMEF introduced video and audio lessons in the training of 320 children in the temporary learning spaces Kumba and Mamfe, and enrolled 20 new pupils into their learning spaces. QFF continued with the implementation of UNICEF's ECHO II project in 28 TLS with over 3,372 pupils in Level 1 and Level 2, with facilitators who have been well-equipped to meet the educational needs of every child, including those with disabilities. From their TLS, 332 children transitioned to formal schools. In January 2026, 450 girls enrolled in secondary schools thanks to the Operation 1000 Girls Campaign implemented in Lebialem and also in the Ndian Division. They were enrolled in secondary schools in neighbouring Dschang. ECW supported the implementation of recreational activities in TLS, which has resulted in the improvement of enrolment and attendance in the TLS. Young girls in TLS benefited from dignity kits donated by UNFPA.
