KEY FINDINGS
Market functionality* weakened sharply in December 2025, Seven markets closed, reducing product variety, while essential goods remained available to support households and displacement camps.
In December 2025, the overall cost of the basic food basket* fell to KHR 98,928, down −6.8% from November 2025, −11.3% vs. October 2025 (ceasefire and resumed purchases), and −6.9% from December 2024, with broad-based declines across all provinces, led by PVR and PST.
The December drop in the cost of basic food basket was driven by sharp price declines in key staples—mixed rice (−5%), duck eggs (−6%), and morning glory (−25%)—which outweighed small increases in fish, pork, and sweet potatoes.
If clashes persist or expand, markets may face deeper disruptions, reducing assortment, limiting trader access, and weakening price stability—heightening food insecurity risks for vulnerable households reliant on local markets for essentials.
