West Africa: Côte d'Ivoire gets one million nets
Nearly one million nets will be distributed
throughout 13 civil districts in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa from Nov. 11-15.
The distribution of nets is a result of a unified effort involving UMCOR,
United Methodist Communications and more than 1,000 United Methodist volunteers
from Côte d'Ivoire and the Texas Annual Conferences which initiated the
net distribution effort. A contribution of $1 million from the Texas Annual
Conference was multiplied nearly five times over with contributions from
the United Nations Foundation.
During this week, a net will be provided to every family with a child under five years old. The nets were purchased through the UN Foundation's Nothing But Nets Campaign. Volunteers received basic malaria education training through UMCOR Health's Malaria Control program.
