Abidjan, 3rd December 2007 - The Special Representative of the Secretary General for Cote d'Ivoire, Mr. Y.J. Choi, visited the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Youssouf Bakayoko in Abidjan on Monday.
Mr Choi said that it was a courtesy call during which he and the Minister discussed various aspects of the peace process in Cote d'Ivoire, with special reference to the supplementary Agreements to the Ouagadougou Political Agreement, signed last week by President Laurent Gbagbo and Prime Minister Guillaume Soro.
"We also exchanged views on how best to end the crisis, the peace process and elections", he told journalists.
Since his arrival in Cote d'Ivoire on 20th November 2007 to officially take up his duties, Mr Choi has met with the actors involved in the search for a solution to the Ivorian crisis, including President Laurent Gbagbo as well as the leaders of the Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire (PDCI) Henri Konan Bédié and the Rally for Republicans (RDR) Alassane Dramane Ouattara. He also went to Ouagadougou to meet with the Facilitator of the inter-Ivorian dialogue, Burkinabé President Blaise Compaoré.
Mr Choi also met with the President of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Robert Mambe Beugré, as well as representatives of the donor community and members of the diplomatic corps.
