Following the press conference yesterday of Carolyn McAskie, Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator and the Secretary-General's Humanitarian Envoy for the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire, Ms. Ponomareva-Piquier said, it had been announced that the United Nations Special Representative for West Africa, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, would lead the United Nations delegation that would participate in the negotiations on Côte d'Ivoire scheduled for Paris beginning on 15 January under the auspices of the Government of France. United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Tuliameni Kalomoh would also participate in the discussions, which would bring together representatives of Côte d'Ivoire political parties and rebel groups. As she had indicated yesterday, Ms. McAskie would be able to participate in the Paris meeting. If that was the case, Ms. Ponomareva-Piquier said, journalists would be informed. A press conference would be arranged with Ms. McAskie after she returned from her mission to the region of Côte d'Ivoire.
