Attachments

Background, scope and methods

The post-electoral crisis in Côte d’Ivoire led to fighting – especially in the West and Abidjan – and to large-scale population displacement. As of early June, HCR reported that some 322,000 Ivoirians were internally displaced, 20% of whom were living in sites, 80% in host families. An undetermined number of displaced persons also fled to hide in the bush. Over 200,000 Ivoirians fled their country during the conflict, mainly to Liberia. Responses are underway.

The study offers insight into the capacity of markets to ensure food supply during the upcoming lean season. It also considers the relative advantages of in-kind and cash-based assistance modalities in view of prevailing and expected market conditions.
