Côte d'Ivoire gets a CFA F 727 million grant from the African Development Fund

Press Release [No. SEGL3/F/06/03]
ABIDJAN, 22 JANUARY 2003 - Mr. Theodore Nkodo, Vice-president, in charge of North, East and South Operations of the African Development Bank (ADB) and Mr. Bohoun Bouabre, Minister of Economy and Finance of Côte d'Ivoire have signed an agreement for a grant of 0.82 million Units of Account (UA), the equivalent of CFAF 727 million under the Technical Assistance Fund (TAF), to finance the study of the Agneby region rural development plan in Côte d'Ivoire. The Agneby region is located in the South-East forest region of the country.

The study will help identify the development options that are highly growth-led and best adapted to the ecological conditions of the Agneby region. It will promote the utilisation of available water and land resources, agricultural production and livestock, private sector participation and environmental protection. The study will also lead to the introduction of a global information system on all aspects of the Agnéby region rural development, comprising mainly the location of rural infrastructure (feeder roads, equipped watering places, low grounds to be improved) and agricultural production. The priority project selected by the study will contribute to poverty reduction in the Agnéby region and increase in the income of farmers through enhanced agricultural production and a better preservation of natural resources.

Mr. Bohoun Bouabre has expressed satisfaction with unfailing assistance and constant support from the Bank and hoped that the institution will pursue its assistance to Côte d'Ivoire particularly for the reconstruction of the country after the present crisis.

Bank Group's operations in Côte d'Ivoire started in 1971. To date, the Bank Group's net cumulative commitments in Côte d'Ivoire amount to about CFAF 1000 billion, which have been used to finance operations in all sectors of the Ivorian economy, particularly agriculture, social development and economic reforms sectors.
