Highlights
- As of November 29, 2024, the epidemic spread from 43 to 45 out of 49 health districts. Among these, 26 are currently active, having reported at least one confirmed case in the last 21 days.
- A total of 1,442 cases out of 2,392 reported confirmed cases were recorded in three health districts of Bujumbura (Bujumbura North, Centre and South) (60,3%). Bujumbura North continues to be the most affected district with 913 cases (38,1%).
- A total of 394 health care providers of critical health services in hospitals have been trained on infection prevention and control.
- 4,736 persons benefited from psychosocial support and mental health services in the treatment centers and in the community. Out of the 4,736 persons reached with MHPSS, 3,467 are children (1,834 girls and 1,633 boys).
- Children 15 years old and younger remain the most affected group (39.5%) with children under 5 years accounting for 21.7 per cent of the total confirmed cases, from 25 per cent in October. However, young adults between 20 and 30 years now represent 29.7 per cent of cases, from 25 per cent in October.
- UNICEF continues to support three isolation centers in Bujumbura, Gitega and Kayanza provinces to ensure safe and hygienic care for affected individuals, where 1,350 people were attended to by health providers.
- A total of 156,536 school children (82,290 boys and 74,246 girls) from 133 schools received WASH and IPC supplies (soap).
- Throughout November 2024, training of schools teachers, directors and members of the school committees on mpox scaled-up to reach 768 schools from 5 hotspot districts (Gitega, Mutaho, Kayanza, Isare and Cibitoke).
